The success of Fırat University continues to increase day by day. In this context, the university has developed a domestic and national software program that will now be used for textbook reviews. The protocol was signed in Ankara with the participation of the President of the Ministry of National Education's Board of Education and Discipline, Alpaslan Durmuş, Fırat University’s Computer Engineering Department faculty member Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bedri Özer, Faculty of Education faculty members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Yavuz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özcan Bayrak.
With the protocol signed between Fırat University’s Technopark and Asos Education Informatics Consultancy Company, the "intihal.net" plagiarism detection program, created entirely by Turkish engineers, will be used for textbook reviews through national and domestic software.
In his speech at the protocol signing ceremony, Alpaslan Durmuş, the President of the Board of Education and Discipline, stated that the domestic "intihal.net" program will detect publications from individuals who have been confirmed to have ties with terrorist organizations such as FETÖ, as well as the frequent words used by such organizations or whether any subliminal messages have been included.
Durmuş emphasized that this national software program will be used in textbook reviews, and he indicated that the plagiarism detection software, intihal.net, will be a significant tool in the fight against FETÖ and other terrorist organizations.
Durmuş said, "This program will provide us with alerts that will help us identify the circulation of certain terrorist organizations, such as FETÖ and PKK. Through this software, we will be able to identify offensive language, racist discourse, sexist remarks, and similar expressions when reviewing the textbooks submitted to our department. We will also detect whether parts of other books have been plagiarized, whether an entire work has been copied, or whether multiple works have been combined into a mosaic-style plagiarism. We will also be able to identify whether publishers are presenting the same book as two different works or claiming that two different publishers are offering the same book."
Prof. Dr. Özer: "We are Turkey's First and Only Plagiarism Program"
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bedri Özer, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering at Fırat University, emphasized that plagiarism and similarity detection programs are strategic products for the country. He stated, "We are the first and only plagiarism program in Turkey. When foreign programs are used, if we upload a book, project, or study to these software, it gets stored in the data pool of a foreign company. Naturally, a book that has not been released for publication in Turkey is stored in foreign countries' data pools. For this reason, plagiarism detection programs must be national and strategic products."
Following the speeches, the protocol signing ceremony was held. The intihal.net plagiarism detection software, which was donated for one year to the Board of Education and Discipline, will enable plagiarism checks to be conducted twice during the review process, once at the beginning and once at the end, in addition to the manual checks conducted this year. The donated software will also be used in the examination of the textbooks and teaching materials distributed for free by the Ministry of National Education.
